DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
DURATION: 2 YEARS
The Diploma in Information Technology is a two-year diploma built around the everyday IT needs of Ghanaian organisations: keeping computers, networks and business systems running; supporting staff and customers with technology; and helping organisations take advantage of digital tools. Ghana's digital economy is expanding quickly — banks, telecom operators, government agencies, schools, hospitals, retailers and a fast-growing community of tech startups all depend on people who can install, maintain, troubleshoot and support IT systems on the ground.
The programme covers core IT foundations — computer systems, networking, databases and web technologies — alongside practical technical-support and digital-literacy skills, so that graduates can step into real IT-support, technical and junior systems roles. Ghanaian workplace examples are used throughout: supporting a small business's first website, maintaining the network at a school or clinic, helping a retailer set up mobile-money-linked point-of-sale tools, or assisting a company's move from paper records to basic digital systems.
WHY STUDY THIS PROGRAMME?
- IT skills are needed everywhere in Ghana — not just in tech companies, but in banking, healthcare, education, retail, logistics, hospitality and government.
- A practical, competency-based diploma — focused on what you can actually do with a computer and a network, not only what you can explain about them.
- Fast route into a stable career — two years to a genuinely useful, employable skill set.
- Supports Ghana's digital transformation agenda — from e-government services to digital business tools, IT-literate graduates are part of how that transformation is delivered on the ground.
- Room to specialise later — a strong general foundation in networking, databases, web technology and technical support that graduates can build on.
- Entrepreneurial flexibility — practical skills that translate directly into freelance IT support, web/basic app work, or a small IT services business.
- Workplace readiness from day one — an emphasis on troubleshooting, technical support and communicating with non-technical users, exactly what most Ghanaian employers need first.
- A foundation for further education — a base for progressing to more advanced IT, computer science or related qualifications, subject to the receiving institution's requirements.
